I have just repaired my Advent 7093. It had been sat on the shelf for a while unused and I had forgotten why I had discarded it. The battery was an issue it didn't seem to hold any charge, nor did it appear to charge. I purchase a used battery off of ebay which is reported to have been tested and in working order.

Having fitted the new battery the laptop keeps flagging up that the battery has 0% power and doesn't seem to be charging. When the lap top recognises that the battery hasn't sufficient power the display dims at the same time the warning comes up, however it is plugged into the mains. After I delete the message full screen quality and functionality are restored ( Iassume the lap top is then running on mains).

When I open the power meter it shows the battery symbol with a large red cross and reports it as having 0% power. In this state the battery light is flashing red.

With the battery removed the lap top runs fine.

When the lap top is turned off and should be charging the battery the power light is illuminated red and the battery light is flashing red.

Do you think I have purchased a duff battery or is it possible that both my existing battery and the replacement one are OK and maybe there is a problem with the charging ability of the lap top

Hey there.

Most good computer shops will have a laptop battery tester.

I would take both batteries to a shop and have them tested.

If both or at least the new battery show up as OK, then it will be the charge circuit on the laptop. In most cases it is part of the motherboard, so therefore new board would be required. For an older machine like this I would say it would possibly be best to see if a separate charger is available, though I must admit, the last time I looked for one they were not cheap.
