Multiple Monitors

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to configure 3 monitors on my workstation using a dualhead

nVidia dvi card, and a 'Y' splitter (dvi/vga). What's happening seems

a little strange, when I boot the system montiors A & C are both

active, and show all the POST and BIOS info and continue until Windows

XP begins to load, once Windows starts monitor A becomes inactive, and

the display moves to monitors B & C. Once in Windows, monitor A is

not detected.

I guess I should add that monitor A is using the vga connector and B &

C are both using DVI.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you gone into the Control Panel "Disply" applet and modified the display settings such

that it knows you want multiple monitors ?

I stated...

"Have you gone into the Control Panel "Display" applet and modified the display settings

such that it knows you want multiple monitors ?"

That means...

Go to Control Panel.

Find the Display icon (Display applet)

Go to the "Settings" tab.

Setup for multiple monitors/displays.

Re: Multiple Monitors

The Post & Bios info are shown before the win video drivers are loaded, &

when they are loaded it sees only the monitors configured in the nVideo

display settings, There should be an Nvideo icon in your task bar which

allows you to configure the multiple monitors, whether this will enable the

3rd monitor I cannot say

Re: Multiple Monitors

I understand what you mean. I have attempted to configure using both

nVidia and Windows XP, but neither recognize that monitor A even

exists, so I can't configure it... nVidia even has a 'detect'

function which I ran, but it still didn't detect the monitor.

Re: Multiple Monitors

Perhaps you don't really have a dual head card, and it is an Either OR card?

Re: Multiple Monitors

It's the VGA Monitor on the splitter that is not working, the two DVI

monitors are working great (the card is dualhead dvi)...

Is it possible that running a splitter with a VGA connector on a DVI

card just won't work? Though that would be confusing because our

company has about 100 dell Optiplex form-factors all running dual

monitors using this same splitter off a single DVI connector.

Re: Multiple Monitors

Not sure what your configuration is any more. You have a 2 output card

or three? What is the splitter for? Is it just a y-cable or a real "Dual

head to go" splitter?

Re: Multiple Monitors

I am trying to configure 3 monitors, and have 2 DVI outputs on my

machine. The splitter cable is very similar to the one pictured here:

http://www.pccables.com/cables/01780.htm

Then I have one dvi monitor hooked directly to the card, and another

dvi monitor hooked to to the dvi end of the cable, those two are

working fine. The third monitor is hooked to the vga end of the

cable, that is the one that is not working.

Does that make it a little clearer?

Re: Multiple Monitors

Note: Both Signals have to be present on the DVI-I Port for this to work.

the note would indicate that the the VGA analog signal goes away on your

system when you have both DVI ports connected

Perhaps the card is only capable of 2 monitor signals, giving you the

choice of 2 SVGA, 2DVI or one of each.

Simply put, if the Control Panel "Display" applet only shows two monitors, then you can't

use three.
