Computer Freeze At Administrator Logon

My computer recently started freezing in three ways when attempting to log on

to the Administrator's Account. (1) If I log on immediately when the main log

on screen appears (or wait a little while), the computer appears to begin the

logon and then freezes at the main log on screen. (2) If I wait a long period

of time and then attempt to log on, the computer freezes at the main log on

screen. (3) The Administrator Account log on appears to work correctly and

the Administrator Account user screen appears but the computer freezes

shortly thereafter with no icons appearing at the botton of the screen.

I have been getting around this problem by manually forcing a shut-down and

re-starting with the Power button - eventually (usually after 5-6 attempts),

the Administrator Account log on will work correctly and I encounter no other

problems working on my computer. Strangely (to me), getting through the log

on seems dependent upon how long I wait between the main log on screen

appearing and logging in with my password.

No meaningful items are appearing in the Event Viewer.

Any suggestions/assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Computer Freeze At Administrator Logon

I had a similar problem and after a bizarre set of circumstances which are

too long to elaborate on, my freeezing problem vanished.

What I think cured the problem was the following:

disconnect everything included the power cable

reconnect the monitor and power cable

start PC

when start complete, stop the PC (hold the on/off

button)

disconnect power cable

reconnect all other devices

reconnect power cable

start PC

try your processes that caused problem

I suspect the problem might be caused the broadband cable/ethernet but as my

PC does not freeze now I can not test for this.

Re: Computer Freeze At Administrator Logon

Hilary,

I wanted to wait to make sure your suggested solution worked over time - and

it appears to have been entirely successful. I have no idea why/how but the

freezes have not re-appeared since I applied your solution.

Million thanks,
