DAIPWYSO Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Hi All, I'm back again. Kate (my partner) has finally given up on Vista and bought Windows 7 (disc) from Amazon. Have tried 4 times now (after carrying out all the recommendations of upgrade advisor) and after a couple of hours, at 62% (every time) it says the upgrade was unsuccessful and the original OS is reinstalling. Tootech Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Remove your security products before running the upgrade - I've seen one recently and Kaspersky was blocking it, and as you say there was no clue as to why it was failing. Quote

Yes we had disabled the security, updated all the software and uninstalled everything the upgrade advisor recommended. But Kate finally gave up and returned the disc. I am trying to get to grips with Ubuntu (a 'getting started' guide would help but I haven't come across one yet) because ultimately we would like to abandon microsoft. Unfortunately our lack of technical capability is causing a major block to Ubuntu. Anyway thanks again for your help, Dave. Quote
