thingameejig Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I have a JVC GR- DVP7 I purchased it a few years ago, took several family movies and forgot about it. I am now trying to connect it to my laptop and copy the movies from it. There is a firewire port which I have connected to my laptop, however my laptop doesn't recognise that it's there. I do not know what software to use to both download the movies and/or edit them. Please can you recommend some software suitable for this purpose and I would be grateful for some tips on how to do it. Thanks in advance Quote
Jelly Bean Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Hello there. You could use a software like DVD Sonic. To connect the video recorder to your computer you need a firewire 1394 connection. A way to get analog video into your computer - If you have a camcorder with a firewire (1394) connection, and you have a firewire card in your computer, you have everything you need. You can connect the audio and video output of your VHS tape player, into the audio and video input of your firewire equipped camcorder, and then connect the firewire to the computer. Doing this, you are passing the analog video through your digital camcorder, where it is converted automatically to digital format, and then forwarded onto your computer. Your VCR may not be compatiable. You could conect your video recorder to a DVD recorder via a skart lead. http://magic.sc-streaming.com/players/WhichPlayerV2.swf?campaignID=1938 You could also buy extra equipment to do the conversion. Others will input I am sure. But I think your issue maybe more of a wrong type of port/cable connection. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
thingameejig Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 Ok, thanks for this, however I do not have a video recorder and I do not intend to use a DVD. All I want to do is copy/ view the content of my mini DV tapes and save them and possibly adit them on my lap top with a view to burn them onto cd/dvd. I currently have the camcorder connected to my laptop via a firwire cable but it does not recognise it. Will the software DVD sonic offer me a solution to this? Quote
Jelly Bean Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 You need to install the software that came with the camera and the hardware driver. Do this either via the disk supplied with the camera or go to the make and model of your camera website and under there support tab you should be able to download the software. thingameejig Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 I no longer have a working disc for this camera. I have been browsing items on youtube and it would seem that I should be able to capture/edit with windows movie maker. all the tutorials I have viewed describe a firewire cable 4 pin to 6 pin. I have a firwire cable 4 pin to 4 pin, there is no 6 pin on my lap top. Is thia why windows movie maker can't find my device? Are there any other methods of connection? Quote
Jelly Bean Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 You maybe able to buy a convertor connector. But I do not rely on these working. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Plastic Nev Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Hi Having used a similar DV camera myself, I had no trouble using the Windows Movie maker, first open Moviemaker, then plug in the camera. In moviemaker, click "File" then "Capture Video", it should then find and recognize your camera. If it doesn't, either the camera has gone faulty, or there is a fault on the cable, so first try another cable, the four pin to four pin is OK as that is what I used. failing all that, can you try it on another computer? A friends perhaps, as that will at least prove the firewire port on your computer. At some point it may also ask you to connect the power supply for the camera too, as the power used is more than what the battery will normally supply. Nev.
