Guest Ian McCulloch Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Hi I have a general question in response to article 816042 I have 3 DC's DC1 contains the PDC FSMO role and will be decommissioned DC2 has been staged I know how to transfer the roles - but shoudl I stage DC2 as the auth. time server and then transfer the role?
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Re: Windows Authoritative Time Server Hello Ian, You can make it only authoritative if it is the PDCEmulator, so move the FSMO roles and then the time service. Alos check this one: http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/4a63190b-c594-4d43-9195-e54e4cb89d251033.mspx?mfr=true Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > Hi > I have a general question in response to article 816042 > I have 3 DC's > > DC1 contains the PDC FSMO role and will be decommissioned DC2 has been > staged > > I know how to transfer the roles - but shoudl I stage DC2 as the auth. > time server and then transfer the role? >
Guest Ian McCulloch Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Re: Windows Authoritative Time Server Can you have more than one time server listed? Can you specify exactly the syntax if you were to include 2 NTP servers in the registry? Guest Meinolf Weber Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Re: Windows Authoritative Time Server Hello Ian, w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:peers /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update With "peers" you can set the time source, either DNS name (time.windows.com,time1.whatever.com,time2.whatever.com) or an ip address from a reliable time source. Here you can find some of them: http://www.pool.ntp.org/ Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > Can you have more than one time server listed? > Can you specify exactly the syntax if you were to include 2 NTP > servers in > the registry? > "Meinolf Weber" <meiweb(nospam)@gmx.de> wrote in message > news:ff16fb66928058ca58ba5a4ea1c0@msnews.microsoft.com... > >> Hello Ian, >> >> You can make it only authoritative if it is the PDCEmulator, so move >> the >> >> FSMO roles and then the time service.
