Folder Stuck on Temp Window.

A while ago I tried to back up my Windows registry, as it seemed like a

pretty good idea at the moment.

Silly Me!! *{B^{P~

It was over 3 gigs, and there is NO WAY in Chicago that it was going to fit

on my pathetic CD!

So I tried to correct my boneheaded error by deleting the "Windows" folder

(it actually looks more like a "link") from the "ready to be written" window.

After about 10 seconds of deleting, my Compaq Presario goes "GOINK!!!" and

says that it cannot delete the folder because "Access Denied" to a font file

that happens to be in it.

Every time I insert a CD into the drive, the "CD Writing Wizzard" pops up

and wants to write the bloomin' 3 gig folder to whatever I put in there, and

won't let me clean house so as to be able to write anything to CD!

I have since downloaded a couple of freebie CD burners which frankly work a

whole lot better than this "Wizzard" ever did which, if I could only find it,

I would delete / uninstall. Clever thing though; it does not show up in

task manager, and when I run a "search" for it, the search utility shuts down

after running about a minute - I assume as soon as it finds the blasted

thing.

Is "CD Writing Wizzard" a utility of a virus? I'm beginning to wonder.

Reminds me of Norton AV, come to think of it.

Can anyone advise me how to clear the "ready to be written" window and free

up the program - or perhaps better yet how to get rid of it altogether?

Substitute the correct info where it says YourAccount and see if you can delete

the contents of this folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\YourAccount\Local Settings\Application

Data\Microsoft\CD Burning

You can Zip/compress the Registry Folder to fit the CD/DVD and use the

burning software for this, I'm not sure how good the FreeBie is?, but try to

download this tool which will cleanup for you, but please read the help file

with it to use it in the right direction!.

Go through these Cleaning steps:

1... Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Network and Internet

Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window

you will see these Options:

| Advanced .

Click on General Tab (1st Tab on the left) and you will see a Button called

[ Clear History ..] click on it to clear your History caches, then click on

[Delete Files..] to delete Internet Files created over the time, click on [

Delete Cookies...] to delete your cookies left by visiting websites.

Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:

[&] Browsing

[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.

= Then try to Disable the Add-Ons on your Browser somehow installed on your

browser, On how to disable the Add-ons follow this:

Click on Programs Tab and then click the Manage Add-Ons Button there Disable

the None/Not Verified Plug-ins/Add-ons ( you need to Renable them one-by-one

later and see which is the culprit .

whew!!! Well thanks nass, but now you've got my organic CPU spinning around

like the disk in my HD, and it ain't designed for that sort of RPM! *{8^{Q~

Now I wonder if I can download something to clean THAT out?

Can I stick a USB wire in my ear or something?

My initial impression of that that technique is that it's sort of like

removing a splinter in some poor bloke's butt by cutting his belly open and

poking it out from the inside. It might be effective, but I'm sure going to

think twice before trying it.

I have grisosoft's AVG Pro installed and update / run it regularly, along

with AdAware and RegScrubXP (the installed registry cleaner is cakka in my

humble opinion). Having tried several of the popular AV programs in the

past and having them taken down / over by malware, I've found the AVG to be

the best of the lot so far.

Have 3rd party CD/DVD burners including SONIC DVD and Express Burn, which I

like for intuitive functionality but I'm having trouble getting successful

burns out of it - which may be a function of a stack of old "Phillips" CD-Rs

which I suspect may be mostly FUBAR to begin with. I'll have to buy some

newer, decent CD-RWs in order to give it a fair trial. But if it does not

work, I'll go looking for another - I just want to get RID of that blasted MS

CD-Write "Wizzard" that as far as I'm concerned acts more like an "Idiot".

You mentioned clearing "cookies" - but some cookies are beneficial and

needed to log on to frequently visited sites, are they not?

When I run AdAware I try to review what it finds and leave cookies that I

know are from trusted sites and / or put them on the "ignore" list. I don't

think it's necessary or even advisable to just purge them carte blanche, is

it?

Hi Jaque,

First, I agree with you in some points, but according to the Info provided

by you I supplied the Solution I don't know what you tried and which you

didn't!.

Yes, AVG is good AV I use it on many machines and install it on customers

machines with Firewall too. Your issue need to be traced to the exact causer

and why you cannot use the other Burning software to burn to a CD/DVD.

Did this only surfaced now, meaning are you been able to Burn before?, what

Media player you having now on your machine, is it WM11?.

About the Cookies, some Cookies Made to last just the surfing Sessions not

any longer, some made to last the whole year. If you are worrying about ID or

Password you can set your Machine/Windows to Remember those and Believe me,

if you or me or anybody can't remember those and suddenly the machine gone

Dead then how you will go about this!!!- yes, time consuming to retype those

but look to the aggravation and the Data will be lost or E-mails when the sys

is dead with the secrets on It !. I'm talking about Dead HDD not one can be

revived or retrieved the Data out of it .

You can have a look into the Event Viewer for more help about what causing

the error and how to go about it, also you can use the Shellview to see in

realtime what causing the halt and the CPU spiking usage.

Sorry, If I made your CPU go organic at least that what we been told at the

supermarkets and the Petrol stations to go for a more greener future <g>.

That sounds like fun! If I knew where to find it and how to look into it I

might just do that! (obviously I'm a bit of a cyber-moron - a 19th Century

kind of guy who never really caught up to the 20th Century... and that's OVER

already!)

Actually my main spikage issue is when AVG decides to upgrade itself as soon

as I turn the 'puter on. I don't know why it hogs so much resource, but it

slows my Compaq Presario XP running AMD Athelon 64 down to a crawl for about

5 to 10 minutes. It's slower than our old W95 box used to be.

Then it has to install the updates which suck up about the same % of CPU

juice. It's about my only gripe with AVG - I wish they would make it an

option to update immediately (probably not a bad idea) or delay it a bit so

that we could get pressing business done without having to wait for it.

It's like my 'puter wakes up constipated and has to take a good half - hour

foop for itself before it can get any work done.

I was referring to the old "protein" system known as the "brain" - the one

that some of us give God the credit for inventing long before Bill Gates came

along.

Us Yanks are squawking like scalded hens over here having to pay $3.24 or so

a gallon of petrol - when you are getting soaked for what - a couple of Euro

a Liter, isn't it now? Have a Friend in Germany - I'll have to check with

her. Those big, expensive, obscenely fat "Hummer" SUVs were all the rage

here for the past several years - the novelty is kind of wearing off now

though! I'm having all the fun I need feeding my little Toyota! ... but I

digress...

Sorta. The CD writer was working OK until I tried to back up that 3 gig

any more CDs without trying to cram it all on to it, which won't work. And

it won't let me remove the utility, which I consider at this point to be

defective and a nuisance as it automatically tries to run every time I insert

a CD.

As to other media utilities I have Windows Media Player, which does not want

to open much of anything, and REAL Player, which can be a little intrusive

but at least it works. Any other suggestions? Being a frugal Yankee with

some Scots heritage, I am rather partial to the term "Free", by the way.

I suspect that most of my other CD burning issues have to do with junky CDs,

and I'll have to try some new blank ones in order to see if that's really the

problem.

Hi Jaque,

Can you log into safe Mode and run the Disk Cleanup by doing these steps:

- Double click "My Computer"

- Right click your Frive/Partition C:\, select properties

- On the Drive properties click on General then click on Disk Cleanup Button

and check all the Boxes there.

Then click on Tools Tab and click the Disk check for error checking and

check both boxes for a through and an Auto Fix. A pop up window will ask you

it can't be done, do you want to run it on Start Up say Yes then Reboot the

machine.

Did this erased the Junk from the CD Drive?.

If still try to access the Event Viewer by doing the steps below and send

your Error messages in your next post.

Open a Notepad, customize or minimize to the taskbar as you will need it

later for this step to copy the error message on it.

Open a run command and type in:

eventvwr.msc click [OK] you will get the Event viewer control Panel.

click on each of these:

Application

System

Security

Look in the right Pane/window for error message with red (X) or Yellow

exclamation mark /!\ , double click each one to get more info about the

causer.

On the Event error properties message you will see:

Up Arrow

Down arrow

Two pages

Click on the two pages to copy the error message then bring up the Notepad

you opened earlier and right click on the first line and select Paste from

the list, this will paste the error message on a Notepad.

Please don't duplicate the error message one of each kind will be sufficient.

Please we need just the error messages with Red (X) and don't repeat the
