Guest Dave Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Hello all, We have a Windows Server 2003 print server connected to a Printronix L7032, which is a laser pin feed printer. When a large number of small in size print jobs are sent to it it prints 9 jobs, pauses 13 seconds and then prints the next 9, pauses. This continues until the queue is empty. As a temporary work around we have connected a HP JetDirect between the print server and the printer, with the JetDirect installed the printer behaves as we would expect: printing the entire queue without pausing. Does anyone have an idea on what might be causing this behavior? Thank you very much for any help you can give!!!! Dave Schaeffer

If so, have you applied some of the post-SP2 fixes for print related issues? When you say "connected to a Printronix", does this mean via Ethernet or directly? More details please. You may want to apply the following hotfixes: 1) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934885 SP2 caused a lot of grief for us with stuck jobs and other "error" gremlins. This helped immensely as well. 2) http://support.microsoft.com/KB/946198 This was fixed pre-SP2 (KB923218) but in SP2 they did not implement the fix. Would be a 1st thing to try in your case since it probably SNMP related and contingent on the printer being online. Helped us immensely. 3) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944203 If you've installed .NET 3.0 framework, you should have this installed as well. It is optional otherwise. 4) Check to see what the print processor is set to. Use WinPrint when possible. 5) You can also try bumping up the Print Spooler priority. - Thee Chicago Wolf
