'installing upgrades' when offline

I have a Toshiba laptop with Vista on it. It doesn't get much use and is

rarely connected to the internet and I usually have the wireless connection

switch set to off. However I have noticed that even when I am off line it

'installs upgrades', last night taking a good fifteen minutes to install nine

upgrades before it closed down.

If it's not connected, where are these upgrades coming from? Is there

anything sinister going on?

The upgrades were downloaded the last time you were online.

So why does it choose to install them at the end of this offline session

rather than the previous online session, which I think was a good few ago.

(hope I don't sound too paranoid!)

Assuming Automatic Updates is configured to the "automatic" setting, it is

not unusual for updates to silently download in the background and then

install when you attempt to shutdown.
