Hi, i have just decided to give my PC a lil more RAM going from 512mb to 1gb using 4 256 ddr's after adding 2 new sticks, i put my tower bak together.

After putting back together, i went to start it back up hoping my machine would be quicker... but it didnt turn on, not even the fans move... :(

as a result i feel it is the PSU that is broken... i plug the pwer cable in and switch on at the mains, when i do i can hear like a thud coming from in the PSU...not sure if this is normal but would like some help on this.

If my PSU is broken, will any PSU work in it?

if it is not broken, whats going on?

My Machine:

eMachine 8210

Windows XP SP2

3.0E GHz Pentium 4 HT

120GB HDD Ultra DMA/100

512MB DDR (before adding 2 x 256mb ddr)

128mb AGP ATI Radeon 9200 <----- (naff :P)

as for other specs im not sure...

Any help would be greatful

Regards, Xp

not any psu willwork. you will need a p4 compatible psu.

most power supply bought now a days are p4 compatible so it is reasonable hard to go wrong....

have you tried removing the new ram you install and powering back on.

what make of ram was the old stuff and the new stuff.

have you made sure there compatible..like ecc and non-ecc etc speed and all that

i quote " i jus tried a different psu and a nice lil spark and bang went off so at the mo, i aint happy lol"

doesnt sound good...how did you handle the ram...do you have another psu....where was the spark...we need another psu,,im not sure if your board maybe any good, depending on this "spark".

make sure theres no shorts (motherboard touching the case) would be more easier if in knew where the spark was.
