Hello and welcome.

Ok great long list but I need you to tell me how much RAM you have installed.

How big in gig is your hard drive and how much free space do you have?

Hi, in case you aren't sure about where to find the information Jelly Bean asks for, it will be in System Properties, which you should find in "Control Panel".

Sorry for the delay in reply I have been working and had to sort two computers and a network.

Ok you could do with a bit of a cleanup on your hard drive before it gets even fuller.

Download: CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download and install it.

Then highlight the Cleaner button on left.

Click analyze button on bottom left, once analyzed click run cleaner button.

Close CCleaner.

Uninstall any programs you no longer use that are not windows processes.

Restart the computer and enter BIOS/Setup.

This is restart and it will say on screen "Press ? to enter setup" ? could be F1,F2 or Del key.

Check under boot tab your hard drive is first boot device and CD/DVD rom is second.

If there are not set that way use the arrow keys to set them correctly save and exit BIOS.

Often a wrong boot order can slow a PC.

We can test the system as well by removing ALL external hardware that is not required to boot and run the computer.Turn off the computer remove the items and restart the computer do you notice a diffrence in startup speed?

Update hardware drivers.

Give the computer a defragmentation.

Open command prompt and type in chkdsk /r and hit enter on your keyboard. You will proberly get a message saying cannot run now would you like to schedule just type Y on your keyboard and hit enter.

Restart the computer and let chkdsk /r run and it will check the hard drive for any errors.

hi jelly bean

sorry for the late response

well things have gotten very interesting ,i got a bit fed up with the pc acting like a snail so i decided to do a reinstall with the rescue disc as i discovered there were certain drivers missing ,so did that managed to update and get the missing drivers installed and found out its a bit of a frankenstein the cpu is from a toshiba laptop and so u can imagine my surprise when i got onto my desktop and everything looks totally different even the shut down now has four buttons instead of three and to top it off i got the xp 30 day validation window as its expired so i cant get to anything now lol.so all i can suggest is that u close this thread ,if im supposed to do it let me know i havent a clue.so for me its time to track down the home build pc enthusiast who created this monster and have a nice polite chat with him lol. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO THANK ALL YOU GUYS FOR THE TIME AND EFFORT U HAVE GIVEN

I've been watching this thread and two things came to mind as you also thought of.

One is that this is a new built PC and should be under warranty if it was built by a shop. Since it was built by an enthusiast that is probably out of the question.

The second thing was of the most concern to me. A new PC would need a new OS installed. The fact that XP was installed and not Windows 7 or even Vista led me to believe that the XP was not legit. I think by what you said that you have now figured that out for yourself.

I thank you for letting us know more. If we can be of any help in getting this machine working by legal means we would be more then happy to assist you.

You are more then welcome to post on this or any other issue in the future.

I wish you luck and hope you continue to visit us.
