IPConfig and Alternative Commands?

Recommended Posts

Years ago I recall Windows 98SE having a command similar to IPconfig. I

can't recall the exact name but it gave out similar, if not more info than

what XP's ipconfig does.

Anyone here remember what that command was called and is there something

equivalent for XP?

Thanks

The GUI based WinIPCFG ?

If yes... It is a dead utility.

The GUI version was winipcfg which could be opened from Start > Run or a command

prompt. Ipconfig "was the DOS" version run from a command prompt. You get the close

enough to the same info at a cmd prompt in XP, at the prompt type: ipconfig /? to

see the different switches you can use and info on what they do. *Note the space

before /?.

If you want to use a similar tool in XP, you can download and install this

program. While written for Windows 2000, it works fine in XP

Wntipcfg.exe

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=00A974B4-0BFA-4065-8081-BBAEBF2A5CB6&displaylang=en

The installation routine puts the files in C:\Program Files\Resource Kit. Place

a copy of WNTIPCFG.EXE in your C:\Windows\System32 folder. That way you can go

to Start -> Run and enter wntipcfg in the Open box to launch the program. If old

habits die hard, you could even rename the file winipcfg.

Good luck

Have you tried running ipconfig /all from the Command Prompt?

It gives you much more info than winipcfg used to give you.

Yes, I have run ipconfig /all. My original question was about the now

defunct GUI util that others have reminded me of. I was trying to remember

what it was called and if it still existed. I couldn't recall what

features it had.
