kryton Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 hello all im interested in the above graphics card and know of somebody is selling 1. before i buy i would just like some advice. i have just read the system requirements for this card and it states you need a Core 2 Duo cpu. my system has a pentium dual core E5200 2.50GHz will my CPU be enough to run this card? i know i can upgrade the CPU to a core 2 duo but i didnt really want to spend anymore money on it yet. thanks for any info Quote
Tootech Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 You won't get the best out of that card with an E5200, but it will run. What you could do is install that card then at a later date swap your CPU for a quad core if your board will take it. In the mean time you could clock your E5200 - I had one run at 3.26GHz without too much hassle. Course it all depends on your board. The only other consideration is your PSU - the card draws 290W max, so a good 650-700W PSU is a must Quote
kryton Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 (edited) thankyou for the reply. i think i will upgrade the CPU in the near future then. the board is a asrock g31m-gs and from the manual it can be overclocked and supports the following cpu's - LGA 775 for Intel ® Core2 Extreme / Core2 Quad / Core 2 Duo / Pentium ® Dual Core / Celeron® Dual Core / Celeron®, supporting Penryn Quad Core Yorkfield and Dual Core Wolfdale processors - Compatible with all FSB1600/1333/1066/800MHz CPUs looks like i will be needing a new PSU to then as mine is only 500w. Plastic Nev Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Hi, I have had a quick look round and found the cheapest PSU at £59-99 available from EBuyer, have a look at what is available here- Power Supplies | Corsair PSU | Antec PSU | Coolermaster PSU - Ebuyer.com It is this one, an unknown make to me, but is rated at 800W Hi-Power Black 800W 14cm Blue LED Fan PSU - 20+4pin 4x SATA 4x PCI-E - Ebuyer Although of an odd or little known manufacturer, it seems to have a good performance rating with some good reviews from users. I don't have one, so cannot comment myself, but it looks good enough should I ever need a replacement. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Plastic Nev Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Hi Kryton, I would go back to that E Buyer site and look round on there first for that cable, they do sell just about everything on there. Nev.
