Mokles Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Hi, I've just bought a new PC which has Windows 7 already installed. Set up was a piece of cake but after working for about 15 minutes the monitor starts flickering and then shows nothing at all. It's usually OK again when it's been switched off and left, say overnight. I've checked all the connections and everything's fine. Do you think the monitor's had it's day or could it be something to do with the new system. Previously it was working on XP Professional. Thanks Quote
PseFrank Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Do you have a friend or family member nearby who would allow you to plug your monitor into their computer? That way you would be able to establish if your monitor is on the way out. Quote I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :) Need help with your computer problems? Jelly Bean Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Make sure all your cables are fully secure. Update the graphics card driver and reconfigure it via windows display and depending on your card you would have to configure it via NVIDIA Control Panel or ATI Catalyst. I would also check power settings from within windows. Are you sure it is just going to sleep due to a wrong setting in power settings? Monitors do go off due to power settings as in turn monitor off to save power. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Poconos Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 With a new PC you shouldn't have to fuss around to get things working. Follow Franks advice first and isolate the problem to either the monitor or the PC. Another easy check before you dig into the OS is when it fails try booting and getting into the BIOS setup. If it comes up then that rules out OS and/or power setting issues. If it doesn't then back to isolating the problem. Can you hook that monitor to another PC? Right after it dies without turning it off? What kind of monitor? Most monitors will display a message when the cable is disconnected. See anything like that? It could always be the video card or chipset that is failing due to infant mortality, a term used to describe devices that fail prematurely. Al Quote
