What are the titles of the prompts? What's written in the top title bar. How

many show up at each startup?

Okay, so you say you can boot to Windows HOWEVER, when it starts the GUI

you get multiple instances of a DOS box/prompt?

If this is the case, first check that you have no links to a DOS program in

your Startup folder.

Second, did you have other programs installed recently that you removed?

Was this computer infected and you cleaned it?

If none of the above apply, then you may have something in your autorun

entries in the registry, run HiJackThis, and post to one of the forums which

deal with these issues..

Re: multi copies of MS DOS Prompt

What I did was to go to msconfig & uncheck most items and also remove all the

unwanted programes from Add/Remove. All the titles 'MS Dos prompt boxes does

not appear anymore. (fyi the black boxes does not have any words in it when

it appears earlier on).

Now when I try to double click my "C", a SET UP dialogue box appears saying

" Intel® family SetUp is preparing the installing wizard which will guide

you through the process." Nothing happens and then another dialogue box

appears" Severe" "OS type not included in the install media" with "ok" for

you to closed the box. That means I cant see the content in my "C" drive.

Any clue as how can I see the contentin "C"?

Sounds like you went a bit overboard there. As we have no idea what you

removed or disabled, it makes it difficult to diagnose.

The Intel issue indicates that you likely have an application

accellerator/hard drive access issue {or chipset driver} [which you may have

uninstalled or disabled]. What Intel chipset is it? Computer model and make

and/or motherboard manufacturer would help with that issue, so we can

determine whether one was applied or not..

Blindly [meaning without understanding] disabling things in MSCONFIG and

removing things you think you don't want or need,, MAY help to remove an

issue, but one should be aware that some things are necessary. Try enabling

whatever you disabled *one at a time* until you get the DOS box issue back.

That will give you the target issue/whatever that MIGHT be involved. Post

what ever you find appears to be the issue..

Re-disable that program, then walk through the rest [one at a time enable]

to see if they are related, or cause issues.
