My son insists I'm a dinasour .. he's right so if this first Q on this site is stupid please don't laugh. I'm using AOL / XP Home (Avast / Malware bytes / Disc cleanup and Defrag) My BBand is v v slow for about 70% of the time. Speed tests are not good BUT the other pc in the house is quite acceptable ???

Few years back we had AOL 1-click fix on our PC. Still with AOL (Happy .. ish) and newer PC (2nd hand from a PC repairer).

I want to install AOL 1-click fix and reading the guide it says use 'keyword 1-click fix'. I could not see/find where to input 'keyword 1-click fix' and I asked AOL who said that 1-click fix' was now not part of AOL.

Q - can I install what was AOL 1-click fix and if poss then where do I type in 'keyword 1-click fix'. If this is not feasible then can anyone suggest a similar fix programme.

Thanks

No you don't. You just think you do. Are you using an AOL browser for the internet? (If they still exist.) If AOL is telling you that it no longer provides or supports the option I would take them at their word. They have enough problems with what they do support.

What you should do is clear out all your temporary internet files and see if that helps. If not it may be a good idea to post some details as to when your internet seems OK and when the 70% problems occur. It may possibly be a malware infection. The dinosaur here is AOL itself and you may want to consider an alternative. Is the is UK version of AOL or the US?

download this program and run it ... it'll take care of your temp files ( and any other rubbish)

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.
