I've had this model (Compaq Presario F756nr notebook; bought new) for about two years now and it runs Windows Vista Home Premium. My problem started several weeks ago when I noticed that everything was so much slower; internet pages would freeze or not even load, would boot up much slower, etc. So, I eventually used my recovery discs(3 of them) to restore to factory settings but now when I turn on the computer it barely makes it to the desktop without freezing up. Usually when I start the computer up, it will go past the boot up screen and then say windows failed to start and recommends running startup repair. But when I run startup repair, it says it can't fix "the problem". Or, I can choose to start Windows normally and it will usually freeze in the process before getting to the desktop.

Does anyone have an idea or ideas of what I could possibly do next. I don't have the money for another laptop or expensive repairs. I not sure if the computer will make it through the recovery disks again without freezing up. I did manage to run a disk check and memory check from the boot up screen that showed no problems so, I don't know what to do next or what the computer will let me do next.

Hi.

It's possible the hard drive is failing since restoring to factory settings didn't help and sounds like it even made it worse.

Try running some of these test programs. Testing a Hard Disk using the Built in Self Test
