Ok i've recently upgraded my PC a bit i've gotten a New Sound Blaster Audigy SE and i've gone and bought a 32" Philips Ambilight HD LCD TV for use as a monitor. Up until now i've been using a couple of cheap Speakers for sound, but i figured why not use the speakers built into the TV aswell for a 4-way almost surround soundy effect.

This is where i hit a brick wall. I'm running the video into the TV using a HDMI cable i bought from Game. It's meant for use with a PS3, XBOX 360 or a Blu Ray player. I figured they all do the same and it would run fine on my computer and it does. There's a single audio in Jack at the back of the TV for all the HDMI audio And in the menus you're supposed to set the audio in to a specific HDMI i have done this but i get NO SOUND from the TV speakers. I know it can't be my audio setup because using the same settings on the cheap speakers i get music and sound fine...

The only theory i can think of as to why it isn't working is The HDMI cable itself. As i know many of them are designed to carry sound (Especially the ones designed for games consoles and BR players). Perhaps my TV is assuming the audio is already coming through the cable. If so is the a way to fix it without buying a new cable? Could it be something else entirely?

If you need any of my specs let me know but i've got a pretty decent gaming rig so i'm certain performance isn't an issue...

Thanks in advance

Sorry for late reply. And my Graphics card is a Sparkle Nvidia 9800 GTX+ 512mb, the Sound card is connected to the TV via a regular audio in jack (the ones you get for headphones and speakers 3.5 i think they're called). thanks for the quick response :D

Hi, OK a quick test first is try headphones or speakers in the Soundblaster headphone jack, if there is sound out, that confirms the sound card is OK.

Next is to then plug the cable into the TV sound in jack, but before plugging it in to the sound card, touch the other end with your finger, an audible but maybe quiet hum should sound from the TV speakers, if not there are two possibilities, either the TV is not configured for that sound in jack, or the cable is duff. Check both and let us know.

Just lucky No Problem :D

Sorry for late reply.
That's OK too at least you haven't said nothing is connecting the sound card to the TV :D

Sorry should have asked you for your exact TV Model Number :o

But having a quick look at the manuals and fingers crossed I'm close with this one

32PFL7605H/05 Philips LCD TV 32PFL7605H 32" Full HD 1080p digital TV with Ambilight Spectra 2 and Pixel Precise HD - Philips Support

where you describe the Audio Input to be sounds like an Audio Out

There's a single audio in Jack at the back of the TV for all the HDMI audio
The Audio in seems to be by the VGA (Computer Monitor) Connector and the antenna

the other thing to check is the plug type you are using

Notice the two Black insulator strips compared to a single one for a Mono Plug

But if we start with the exact TV Model I can find the right manual and then we will be on the same page :D

Thankyou both for your assistance, I tested the cable with my brothers Amp and it plays sound through that fine, so that rules that one out :/

TV Model

32PFL7603D/10 Philips LCD TV 32PFL7603D 32" integrated digital with Ambilight and Pixel Plus 3 HD - Philips Support

I tried Updating the TV software but to no avail. And reading the manual shows it only officially supports PC when connected via DVI/HDMI.

And it was the second type of plug the one with the two strips.

I've found the solution not that it's a great one lol. After borrowing a friends DVI-HDMI cable and using that instead i had sound. Which means The television itself doesnt support sound for PC HDMI-HDMI or atleast not to my knowledge.

Thanks again for all the help guys :)

Great that's what I like to hear, now all you have to do is talk Game into exchanging your cable

That's on thing I like about Maplins, no hassle exchanges with receipt and packaging ;)
