May be because you have a sata controler and need to install the sata/raid

drivers from floppy, via F6 option early in the installation process to add

third party drivers

The drivers should be avilable from your Laptop site, or with disks

supplied. If on a cd there is usually a 'make floppy' option to extract the

drivers to floppy

There are less drastic approaches you can take before having to resort to

reinstalling XP. Try these first.

Have you tried logging on with the built-in Administrator account and going to

Control Panel -> User Accounts to reset the password for your account? To logon

with the Administrator account in XP Pro, do the following.

If the Welcome screen is displayed, hit the Ctrl + Alt + Del key combination

twice.

This should bring up the Log on to Windows dialog.

Enter Administrator in the User Name box.

If you set up a password for this account, enter it now. Otherwise, leave the

password box blank.

If you're still locked out of your computer, take a look at these web sites for

information on creating a bootable CD that will let you reset passwords.

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor

Note: The reason you're getting that error message is probably due to the fact

that your laptop has an SATA hard drive. In order to install XP on your

computer, you need to provide drivers for your the SATA controller on your

laptop's motherboard on a floppy disk early in the installation process. Look

for a notice on the bottom the screen to hit F6.

Good luck
