Event IDs 1500 and 1508

March 26, 2008

W2K3 Standard Terminal Server with 4Gb Ram. Recently upgraded the accounting

system. There are approximately 50 users. After the upgrade, aproximately the

first 30 people can log in and the rest can not. Event ID 1500 and Event 1508

multiple times. "Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be

loaded..." I suspect that the 4Gb of RAM is not sufficient for 50 users. Does

this sound right, or is something corrupted or hardware failure?

If the problem is insufficent RAM, no hardware failure, or system

corruption, can I upgrade the existing server to W2K3 Enterprise and add more

RAM?

If so, can I put the W2K3 Enterprise CD in and "Load on Top" to upgrade

Windows Server 2003 from Standard to Enterprise?

What is the exact text of the "DETAIL" part of these events?

I wouldn't rush and buy more memory.

Instead, I'd install the UPHClean utility:

requested service.

Event ID 1508: Detail - Insuficient system resources exist to complete the

requested service for C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\ntuser.dat

The actual name of the user that couldn't log in is written instead of the

%username% variable.

Re: Event IDs 1500 and 1508

Have installed the service UPHClean and edited the registry in accordance

with KB 935649. First I added the key with a value of 30 but had no success.

Then I edited the value of 30 to ffffffff. No luck. Now we are also getting

Event ID 1219.

terminal server user configuration.

Error: Not enough resources are available to complete this operation.

Note: The problems occur after approximateley 30-32 logons. We presently

have 50 remote users.

Mm, sounds like you are running out of WorkItems or

FreeConnections, or something like that.

Check the proposed solutions here:

You can also use Performance Monitor to check exactly which

resource is causing this.

If that doesn't help, I'd call the vendor of the application, or

Re: Event IDs 1500 and 1508

I reviewed KB 317249. We are not getting Event ID 2021 or Event ID 2022 so I

did not want to make registry edits or get too aggressive at this time.

I opened up an incident with IBM. The server is an xServer 226 with dual

Xeon CPU and 4Gb RAM. Yesterday I updated the following: System Board Bios,

Raid Controller Bios/Firmware/Driver, Hard Drive Firmware, and the NIC

Firmware/Driver. These have not been updated since the box went into

PerfMon pages/sec was previously running at 100% when 30-32 users were

logged in. After the registry was edited, a couple of days ago in accordance

with KB 935649 using ffffffff, the value of pages/sec has decreased by about

50%. However Event ID 1500 and Event ID 1508 continued.

Could the out of date Bios/Firmware/Drivers be causing this?

Difficult to say. Not the BIOS, but possibly the drive firmware.

Have you checked the size of your pagefile?

Does the version of the Remote Desktop Client have any relevance to the

problem? The remote machines are locked down, typically running Win XP SP1

with the original Remote Desktop Client.

Re: Event IDs 1500 and 1508

There seem to be more problems with this server and the software on

it. I don't think that this is solvable in a newsgroup, Allan.

Seems to me that the Skyline vendor is the first one to contact,

since the application generates errors in the EventLog and the

performance problem started after upgrading the app.
