Have I broken my Motherboard?

I've recently upgraded my PC with a new PSU, GPU and RAM. Now when I turn it, there is power going to it but there is no BIOS messages transmitted to my Monitor. The light on the Motherboard goes on, the HD is receiving power but you can't hear it doing any real work, all the fans start but that's it no booting. There are no beeps at all when you turn it on now.

 

It seems most likely for the mother board to get damaged when you literally dis-assemble it again. I decided I'd take the CPU and heatsink off to re-apply some thermal paste and clear the heatsink of dust. When I put them back on the motherboard I decided to do it before I had fastened it to the Chassis which later I found was again the advice in my motherboard manual. I also put the extra RAM on the motherboard when it was out of the chassis. I think this is when the motherboard may have got damaged.

 

If all my RAM somehow got damaged or I had broken my CPU would I still get BIOS messages on my Monitor? Note that I have graphics integrated into my intel G965 northbridge chipset and this is what I have gone back to using so it is nothing to do with my new Graphics card.

 

My motherboard is an ASUS P5B-VM and my new PSU is a Seasonic S12 II 430w. I've definitely attached all the power connectors from the PSU to MB properly. I really can't see there being a compatibility problem between the motherboard and PSU, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

 

Thanks, any help much appreciated. I think I'm going to have to get a new motherboard, but I don't want to get i wrong and waste my time and money.

try removing the cmos battery for 15 mins.......try the motherboard out of the case,with just the cpu with fan,memory, make sure the motherboard has an on board buzzer to here any beeps.....if the ram is faulty you will not see anything on the screen, the same for the cpu...but the majority of boards will still beep an error code if one of these are damaged....so most likely is the board at fault...but try the above first.

Did the battery thing and it sorted it. I also unplugged the main power cable going into the MB then put in back again on the advice of a bloke in a shop, but I reckon it was the battery thing that did it.

 

You have no idea how grateful I am. Thanks loads.

 

Would be nice to know the reason why this action would have sorted it out. I've never needed to do anything with the CMOS or MB/CMOS batteries until now.

glad to of helped mate.

the biios locks up on occassion whith some motherboards this could of been static when changes parts,thats my theory.
