mikeh Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I have installed a new hard drive, reinstalled XP, installed Belkin driver for USB wireless card, but wireless card won't do anything. The 1394 network adapter says it's connected at 400 mbs, but I can't connect to the internet. When I plug in the wireless card, I get prompted by the "new hardware found" box, and even with the Belkin disk in the drive, it doesn't work it out. Surely I've installed the driver for it already. Confused, any help much appreciated. Quote
mikeh Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 I swapped the usb wireless card with another - it worked! Quote

mikeh Posted May 16, 2010 Author Posted May 16, 2010 No I'm not. I'm so infuriated by computers they make me feel suicidal sometimes. No-one ever says computers are great labour saving devices that will from time to time cause you hours and hours if not days and days of uggeration do they? Makes me want to ditch the whole lot and go and live in a cave. Sometimes. The reason the other adapter worked, is that I had installed the driver for a 4000 version, and tried to connect using a 3000 version. (I couldn't remember I had bought two "identical" adapters on two different occasions). Anyway, could you suggest any reasons why although I can now connect to the internet, I can only get onto simple sites, like Google, or partially open other pages, and why windows update, although turned on, doesn't seem to be making any progress? I have done ipconfig/all, but not sure what this is telling me. Thanks again. Quote
Armageddon Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Mike try releasing and renewing your ip then clearing ur dns open a cmd prompt then type ipconfig/release hit enter then type ipconfig/renew then hit enter after that type ipconfig /flushdns to clear your dns hope that helps Dave Quote Google is your friend We are all members helping other members.
