RDC "...cannot connect..." error

The Problem:

This is the error message I recieve after entering the username and password

required to connect remotely - "This computer cannot connect to the remote

computer. Try connecting agian. If the problem continues, contact the owner

of the remote computer or your network administrator."

The Setup:

2 computers - laptop running winXP <remote> / desktop running win2000 <host>

*both computers have the SAME RDC software installed

*both computers are ONLY set for administrator user access

WLAN/LAN router - netgear

*latest firmware update

VPN - shared folders/files and drives accessable from either pc

*all in perfect working condition

The Question:

Why can I not connect to the host remotely from my laptop <not by tunneling

through the internet but simply through my already working VPN>? If I am

configured and able to exchange files, folders, and access programs from one

another, why can I not login to the host with the RDC application? What am I

missing or doing wrong? Please help.

P.S. If more info is needed from my part, I would happily give more detail.

Re: RDC "...cannot connect..." error

Have you configured the Windows firewall to allow incoming rdp

traffic?
