WinServer 2003 - Tired of italic font introduced with SP2

I am tired of *everything* being in italics in Windows Server 2003 SP2.

As I access it through Remote Desktop, I cannot even use ClearType, so using

apps strains my eyes more than necessary.

Is there any way to get rid of it and use a normal font instead?

Cheers

And how come I am the only person who has ever even mentioned this in this

newsgroup?

I seem to be the only person who has mentioned this on the entire internet.

Does everybody else like everything in italics, or is there something wrong

with my installations?

As Sherlock Holmes use to say, "once you have eliminated the impossible,

whatever

explanation remains - however improbable - must be the truth."

My RDP into W2k3 SP2 shows no sign of italics - at least not in Event Viewer

or Explorer, or in

BackupExec.

Where do you see italics?

All things considered, your problem seems confined to your installation.

*Everything* is in italics - Start Menu, context menus, all text in

applications, Event Viewer, Device Manager, IIS Manager, all wizards and

dialogue boxes, title bars, icons text, etc. The only thing that is not in

italics is the Command Prompt.

I noticed this as soon as I installed SP2, a year ago. I assumed it was

some stupid change that they had made, and I expected to see lots of other

people complaining about it.

I just checked my install dates, and it seems that my other images and

virtual machines must have been cloned from this one [slightly] corrupted

installation. My SP2 came from Windows Update.

Has anybody got any idea how I can fix this? The Appearance tab in Display

Properties has all the themes in italics as well.

I can't believe I have been putting up with this crap for a year, thinking

it was normal.

I forgot to mention that even nearly all text is in italics on websites, in

Firefox and IE7, unless (I presume) that 'normal' is defined in the CSS for

the text.

Hi,

This is not normal. It sounds to me like you have a corrupted Font file or

something. Is it the same no matter what user is logged into the computer?

Using the Apperance settings I can set whatever I want things to be.

What troubleshooting have you already done?

Cheers,

Lara

Thanks, but I have already figured out what happened, and how it happened.

http://groups.google.co.uk/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.general/browse_frm/thread/d90c6a5e4af5e49a/94046246004c5315?hl=en#94046246004c5315

I still need to get a full set of the fonts that were updated in SP2.

I cannot remember, but can I make a fresh installation of Windows Server

2003 without having to supply a serial number and activate it? I plan to

update a fresh installation to SP2 within a virtual machine and copy the

updated and fresh fonts folder over to the server.

Cheers

No, you need the serial number to start the install. However, if you

reinstall SP2 it should reinstall the Fonts for you.
