I'm looking for a command line tool that works on Windows to merge large binary files.

I would use it in a scenario like this: utorrent has created a file on one computer and filled it partially with downloaded segments. The rest is filled with nulls. I have another partial download of the same file, and this file is not necessarily of the same size as the first one, and might have been downloaded either sequentially, from a server, or using utorrent as well. In any case, the files should be considered from beginning to end, byte by byte, so length does not matter. If file a has data where file b has nulls , nulls in b should be replaced. It doesn't matter whether the result is output to one of the original files or to a newly created file.

I'd like to also mention that in the simplest case when I have a sequentially downloaded file I can just find the offset where the file ends and append from that point data from the larger file. Perhaps this can be done with commands available on vista.

We do not help people with download (torrenting issues) its in the rules

and just to let you know its not possible anyway, torrent files are split into segments so that they can be easily downloaded in small chunks from various places at the same time.

no software or code would allow you to merge 2 different sections of a file and then combine them into a usable version

not strictly true

data analysis software does it all the time. time histories, vibration data, music files

some very clever software from people like ncode, hbm and bespoke software

can see aaachs logic, this might work

All sounds great in theory, problem is it all revolves around using the SAME torrent, same torrent = same data/missing data

If you were missing say <5% of a torrent, just get more trackers from another source - simple as

As Dalo noted we don't condone torrents as it's a great way to get infected and in some cases it's used to illegaly obtain software and media. I'm not suggesting that is what you are doing but it is our policy not to help with P2P or torrent issues.
