Guest blackhead Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I have an Adata USB flashdrive running a p2p program that also stores downloaded files on it. I left it running for a few hours. When I came back, it was no longer running the program. All the data is secure so I have to run lock.exe, together with a password to access it. But when i run lock.exe from the installation disk, it says "No Flash device attached!". When i run lock.exe fro the flash device, it says "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". So now I can't even access the program and data that was in the security area. Does anyone have an idea as to what has happened because it looks as if I'll have to reformat it, which seems pointless if the same problem is going to occur. Regards, Larry.

What programs, by name, are we discussing? Did you ensure that the device was not set or allowed to suspend when the computer went to standby/suspend mode? -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com -- _________
Guest Jeff Richards Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Re: Running program from flash drive means lock.exe doesn't work Try re-installing the W98SE drivers for the device. The message about no device installed indicates there might be a driver problem. Get a fresh copy of LOCK.EXE from the driver disk. The error message when you run it from the device suggests it might be corrupted. Re-boot the PC without the flashdrive connected and then plug it in - is it detected? Does the FORMAT program see the device? If the P2P program stopped running there may have been a fault or a power failure that corrupted the file system on the device. In that case the only option might be to do a new FORMAT and re-create your secure area. Since you don't know how the original problem occurred you can't tell whether that is a long-term solution or not. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "blackhead" <larryharson@softhome.net> wrote in message news:b4d826b5-3657-49f9-bc99-36fc4150c078@s12g2000prg.googlegroups.com... >I have an Adata USB flashdrive running a p2p program that also stores > downloaded files on it. Lock.exe has to remain running in the background when accessing the security area. After a while it exits. I don't see how I can get around this.
Guest Jeff Richards Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Re: Running program from flash drive means lock.exe doesn't work You should contact the manufacturer to find out why LOCK.EXE is shutting down. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "blackhead" <larryharson@softhome.net> wrote in message news:246a6d41-d79d-4c2b-a042-b2daeb4c3a32@u10g2000prn.googlegroups.com... > On 28 Mar, 17:47, blackhead <larryhar...@softhome.net> wrote: > snip < > Lock.exe has to remain running in the background when accessing the > security area.
