fsyozabil Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I have a pc which was sold to me by a friend, and I'm using the hard drive fom my old pc. If I should try to reinstall windows from a recovery disc, will I have problems because, the recovery disc won't recognise the new pc? The pc is AMD Athlon 64 Processor, 3200+ 1.99GHz, 2gB Ram OS=XP home SP3. My old pc was AMD Athlon 32 Processor, 2200+ Quote
RandyL Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 A recovery disk is supplied by the manufacturer of the PC. Dell, HP, Acer etc. It will only work with the same make, model and number, or number series of computers. So say for instance you have a Compaq Presario 5010. A recovery disk will only work on a 5010 or in Compaqs case 5000 series. If you have a full retail disk of Windows then it can be used on any computer but it can only be validated on one computer at a time. Quote We are all members helping other members. Plastic Nev Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Hi, are you using or trying to use the operating system that will be on the hard drive from your old computer, but it is refusing to work as it is seeing a new environment? If so, and you have a full Windows XP disk, you can perform a repair. That should then get it running. You may of course have to buy a full Windows XP disk. Let us know whichever way you are trying please. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
