I came across a mobo p4i65g running Vista Home Premium. It had 512Mb of ram. I look up the specs to see what was the maximum amount of ram posible in this mobo. It said 2 GB of ram. I install two modules of 1GB each PC400. After booting up I notice that is only recognizing 1 GB. I went back to the specs and notice that in the listed OS compatible with the MOBO Vista is not listed. Is that the reason why It only sees 1GB of ram. I check device manager and there is no yellow question mark. Please advice.

If a MOBO is not listed as supported by an OS its normally because the MOBO was released before the OS was launched and this is the case with yours Vista was not around when this board was released thats all.

It does support DDR400 which is PC3200 - have a look on the actual RAM sticks sticker and check that they are not ECC ram sticks as is often the case with DDR400 (ECC RAM is for servers and wont work in 99% of mainstream boards)

If the RAM is just plain old DDR400 then check that they are seated correctly in the DIMM slots. you will hear both sides of the tabs 'click' when the RAM is fully inserted.

failing that one of the DIMM slots could be faulty, check this by removing one RAM stick, does the POST see it? if so then remove it and then try in the other DIMM and then retry with the other RAM stick in both slots.
