Hello,

I have a re-build by Advent - had it 4 years.

It's been okay, no real probs. Last week, my ext

speakers started crackling and today there is no

sound. I have checked the connection and when

I do wriggle it about, a crackling comes from the

speakers - a little bit.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks

Marbow

There should be 3 ports for the speaker wires on the back of the MOBO (some have 5 and some 7) if its 4 years old its probably only got three, GREEN (which is front speakers) BLUE or BLACK (which is back speakers) and RED (which is BASS)

If you only have 2.1 speakers chances are they get all their audio from the green port.

If you have uninstalled the sound drivers and then rebooted windows it should pick the right ones up again.

The speakers could be broke or the onboard sound has given up the ghost.

Add in PCI sound cards are around £5 for a basic one.

speakers are around £10 for a budget set
