If connecting to the primary hdrive cable it must be set as slave with the hdrive as master. If connecting to the secondary cable, it should be master, with anything else attached as slave. Also you MUST set the BIOS/CMOS to recognize the drives. Go into the BIOS and set the four channels at auto UNLESS you have a hard drive overlay running. IF the BIOS already shows CHS values hard set for the hard drive(s), do not change them, but put the empty channels at auto. A final question would be: were these drives compatible with 98? DVD REQUIRES a faster processor than many old computers support, and your video MUST also be able to handle the play back. Your specs indicate a low end [slow performance] to a set of processors which would be capable [though not the greatest]. The graphics [integrated ATI Rage Pro (AGP 2X)] should be running the latest driver for full capability. Also the 4meg memory is low so the BIOS shared memory should be set to provide more.. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ban_gx1/specs.htm -- MEB http://peoplescounsel.orgfree.com -- _________
