I've not used Windows 7 and my only experience of Vista was my father's PC. I have the option whilst looking for a new machine. I can even have XP (which I get along with) but that may be a wrong move.

My use is quite ordinary, quite dull really, so not sure if any of the improvements would enhance my experience.

Just thought I'd ask on here saying as how I have a choice.

Unfortunately you Don't really have the choice you think you have :)

Microsoft Support Lifecycle

Anyone buying a new machine with XP on it are going to be leaving themselves open to security vulnerabilities before the end of the machines life expectancy, also I think you will find that over the next couple of years that available compatible software will start to dry up as the software companies spend more time and money developing the software for Vista and Windows 7

Basically when buying new you are best to get the latest, version which is Windows 7, Which fortunately is a lot better than Vista, shame that the same could not have been said about Vista and XP
