Charging MP3 players from the mains

I just wondered if anybody knows if you can charge MP3 players from the mains with any USB charger. My daughter has a Sony NWZ A816 and wants to charge it whilst on holiday. She won't have her laptop with her. I found a charger on the internet for £3.99 anbd when I looked at the specs. saw that they were identical to those of my sat. nav. charger so we thought we'd give it a go. It doesn't seem to work as it doesn't show that it's charging and even lost power whilst connected - although she only plugged it in for a minute :rolleyes:.

 

Sony's own charger costs about £20 so I didn't really want to spend that much. Also, has anybody tried these adaptors for use in cars which can take up to 3 different things at the same time. That may be an alternative for us if we knew that it would work.

 

I would welcome any comments or suggestions.

I know it sounds daft, but it depends on the MP3 player, I am assuming this one has a lithium internal as opposed to AAA :D

 

I have one that charges off my blackberry charger and one that will only charge through its laptop cable even though the jack that it plugs into it is exactly the same :confused:

 

Sony themselves have become wizards at making you pay for their stuff when something from ebay at £2 inc P&P would do exactly the same :D

 

In theory, if its the same jack (then regardless of the powersource) it should work.

I presume it's lithium as it isn't thick enough to contain AAA.

Any cable should do it as looking at this one:-

USB cable/charger for Sony NWZ-A815 NWZ-A816 NWZ-A818 :)

 

thats a very odd type of cable to use in a sat nav if im honest they tend to use

If this is one of the multi chargers, then its possible that its slightly different (although may fit) hope this helps

My sat nav mains charger uses a USB port that's why I thought it would be ok for the MP3.

 

We have the cable and it all connects - it doesn't charge.
