Can some one tell if I have to change anything in the bios concerning the AHCI connection? I want to connet an eSATA harddrive, but I don't know if it's enough just to turn on the AHCI in bios..

You shouldnt need to no, just plug it in and then windows should pick the drive up when it starts, it should also be listed in the BIOS POST as a plug and play drive or something along those lines

I have got the information now that the eSATA harddrive I'm going to buy isn't smart-monitoring capable. Does this conflict with the drive's stability If the port that I'm using the eSATA on is enabled with smart..? And auto detection? And this hasn't got anything to do with plug and play right?

SMART is just something the BIOS/other programs can use to display information relating to the HDD

Wiki explanation here S.M.A.R.T. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

It wont stop the HDD being recognised by the OS, but I am surprised that its not SMART capable as pretty much all HDDs now are.

As said in the above it helps early detection of HDD failure (as you are using it as external, often used for backup purposes you ideally want SMART)

why are you going down the external route? are you planning on using this between multiple locations with multiple PCs?

Yes I'm surprised too, It's the verbatim one on 1,5 GB combo... Very weird that this model isn't capable of SMART. The company has said so.

Well I will use this option because it's the cheapest way to get a lot of space and an okay speed I think, but If you have a cheaper one I would really like to hear it:)
