When I say ive lost it. I mean, the disk failed and it is no more. I am

rebuilding it now, not the quickest way, but at least I will have it

restored.

Do you have a backup of the AD contents (system state)?

Most likely you're having this issue because your "member server" was a

"member" of the lost domain. You're probably gonna have to move that member

server from a member of a domain to a workgroup before you attempt to

"promote" it to a DC. Also, when you do this you will basically have to

recreate all shares, users and permissions for the "new" domain (even if you

use the same domain name).
