How or where can I do this? - I obviously have a lot of favourites and mail addresses on OE on my old machine.

Do I have to choose an alternative, i.e. Thunderbird or WLM etc. and how do I get the data onto or into said program?

My older (XP) machine is not bootable at present but I would like to transfer stuff once it is.

You're going to have to get it to boot first.

Bookmarks or Favorites in IE can be copied over. Open IE. Click File. Click Import and Export. Follow the wizard to create the file.

Burn to disk. On the new machine use the wizard to import the file.

The Address book has a similar wizard. Open the Outlook Express address book. Click file. Click export. You'll see several different options as to save as what. If you are going to be using Windows Live Mail you can choose the WAB option to export as. I suggest exporting to each option however so that you have more import options. Especially if you aren't going to be using WLM.

Burn to disk. On the new machine use the wizard to import the file.
