madon37s Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 HELP PLEASE!!!!! The other day I was just changing over computer desks, now all I did was switch off the power source at the wall and then unplugged everything from the back of the computer, monitor etc. Then, after I had plugged all the different cables back in again when the monitor came on the desktop icons are slightly "elongated" and now when I come to shut down the computer even after an hour it still hasn't done so. The strange thing is also that when I tried to restore the computer to a few days before (ie in May) the restore calander would only show June and would NOT go back to May!! I have tried re-setting the monitor settings, but they are on the right ones anyway, also I have been getting a warning box up saying that "The ATI graphics card may not be installed or is not working propely" The thing is I have an ASUS 512mb graphics card in my computer anyway!!! Any help on this would really be very much appreciated. Many thanks and kind regards Paul Quote
Plastic Nev Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Hi Paul my guess at first is the movement itself may just have shaken that graphics card so that the contact strip isn't connecting properly. I know they are held in with the screw in the bracket, but there is that much weight on these cards it may just have moved a little. Shut the power off and remove the cover, remove the screw and then the complete card and replace it again, that should make sure all the connections are correct then try again. Nev. madon37s Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Hi Nev I have tried that and unfortunately it hasn't worked mate! The computer is still not letting me do a restore point in May either, Any ideas what else it could be? Kind regards Paul Quote
KenB Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hii, Take a look here: Computer does not shut down properly if Selective Suspend is enabled If this does not resolve the problem you can go back and reverse the setting.
