Hi folks I'm having proms myself in getting my intel pro/wireless 3945abg wireless to turn on seems ubuntu knows its there but i can't use the fn+f1 key like i do in windows to turn it on i have tried alsorts any ideas would be appreciated

Just to update it seems the problem exists with how my wireless is turned on and there is no way round it apart from flashing and upgrading bios , this i won't do just to tinker with Linux so am gonna spend seven quid on a external one linux likes

Sometimes the wireless card is not automatically enabled. So to enable via the terminal type:

 

sudo '/sbin/service NetworkManager start

 

Then type in (without the pound sign)

 

#iwconfig

and then , whats below. However if iwconfig would return wlan1 replace the 1 with the 0 below.

 

#sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

 

If you are displayed a prompt to enter your password do so.

The last post here was June 2010 - I doubt that Armageddon is still looking for a fix for this one :)
