Im using usb modem to connect to internet.

Recently the dial up icon in the system tray always show it is busy - has

data sending out and in.

There is no progrom required internet access, neither of my anti-virus

program is updating virus pattern, neither my windows update is running, and

there isint any download program.

How do i know which program is running with internet activity?

Im afraid my pc is already installed with trojan horse althought my firewall

seems to be running.

RE: Internet connection activity

I have a firewall ZoneAlarm that warn me of such. Windows built-in firewall

will only protect you from inbound threats, while ZoneAlarm is good for

inbound and outbound threats. A free version is available here:

http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm-Firewall-Windows-2000-XP-/3000-10435_4-10039884.html

I also use ActivePorts:

http://www.devhood.com/Tools/tool_details.aspx?tool_id=515

This program will tell you what ports are active on your computer and what

IP address they're connected to. great for checking to see if any

unauthorized programs are running

However, be aware that the current versions of Zonealarm come with some

unwanted baggage that will permanantly break your PC*. Also Zonealarm takes

an inordinately long time to configure itself during the boot process and

can extend the boot time to as much as 5 minutes. Version 5 was the last

version that was considered to be of any value.

*For example, if you have moved the drive letter of your optical drive away

from D:, it will revert to D: and be impossible to permanently change. If

you have more than one drive, it only affects the first.

Also, Zone Alarm is configured to "check for updates" on a daily basis.

I'm using he latest ZA 7.x and I don't see any long lag. I have an old

2.0 ghz P4 laptop and it takes maybe 3 minutes total from power on to

working. I don't see a lot of ZA baggage either. Being that I have a

laptop & have only 2 drives C: & D: and no need to move them and that

issue is mute.
