DazBat Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Hope you guys can help ! I kept getting a CMOS error message on boot-up, I searched the internet and came to the conclusion that I need to change my CMOS battery. I bought a replacement and fitted it today ...... problem now is that the screen does not even receive a signal from the computer, the fans kick in but I do not hear the hard drive ...... what have I done ??? The only thing I can think of is that the battery was out for approx 24hrs, does this matter, I have checked all the cables and no problems on that side. Any help would be appreciated Quote
danzil Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 the battery doesnt matter, it just stores your bios settings, this doesnt stop xp from loading (all but the time being out of date etc)....... i would try removing all connections to the power supply, still with the battery out leave it for 30 mins. pop the battery back in then the power connections.then try. if that doesnt work i would definatly check another power supply. how exactly did you remove the cmos battery, did you touch the board, static can casue all sorts of issues regards danzil Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D
DazBat Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 I managed to sort the problem, I had to remove the jumper, infront of the battery, from pins 1+2 to pins 2+3, left for 30 seconds then returned the jumper back to 1+2. Boots up just fine now, hope this helps someone else in future Quote
danzil Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 seems strange but glad you got it sorted. regards danzil Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D
hardware_dave Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Let this be a lesson to us all, ALWAYS clear the cmos after changing the batt as it will be full of random garbage. The bios should do sanity check on the contents of the NVRAM, but if it nearly makes sense the board can hang. I wasted 4 hours once finding this out <grin>.
