Name servers for a second server

My first Windows 2003 server has names servers ns1. and ns2.mydomainname.co.uk.

I would like my second server to have name servers ns3. and

ns4.mydomaninname.co.uk. Is this possible or do I have to use another first

domain name on the second server?

Also, any reference to some good and brief reading on name servers and glue

records would be helpful.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Re: Name servers for a second server

Hello Roger,

What do you mean with nameservers for your first and second server? In a

domain you have one or more DNS servers and the DC's have to point at least

to all of them in there own site. Please be more detailed with your naming

and what you like to achive.

Best regards

Re: Name servers for a second server

I have had for some time one computer running Windows Server 2003 as a web

server. Its IP address is 88.208.210.218 and its name servers are ns1 and

ns2.upperbridge.co.uk. I understand that when I set up the first domain name

on this server, upperbridge.co.uk, the name servers ns1 and ns2 were created

from it (this was done with a programme on the server called Matrix Windows).

upperbridge.co.uk is an operational domain on this server.

I now have a second computer running Windows Server 2003, intially to trial

SharePoint Server. This has the IP address 217.174.240.17 and I need to

create its name servers.

Do the name servers have to be constructed from a domain name that I own to

which a prefix like ns1. is added?

If so, can I use the same domain name, upperbridge.co.uk, on the second

computer and attach different prefixes for the name servers, like ns3. and

ns4.

If so, how do I do this?

Does this make sense?

Rather than guessing what to do, I would appreciate it if you could advise

me how to proceed.

Thanking you in anticipation.
