Can't remote desktop into server following reboot.

Hi

We are using Windows 2003 SR2.

Last night I was working from home and needed to reboot our exchange

server. When it came back, I tried to remote desktop into it but got

the message "Remote connections might not be enabled at the remote

computer". This morning I came in work and the server is working fine,

but I can't even remote desktop into it from work.

I assume that a service may be stopped or something similar. I could

try rebooting the server again, but can't do it just now. Can anybody

suggest what it might be, to save me rebooting the server?

Thanks for your help

Colin

Sounds like you need this hotfix:

930045 - A Windows Server 2003-based computer stops responding when

you shut down the computer in a remote console session

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=930045

Thanks for the suggestion. Just to clarify something for me, the

server is responding in that it is working as it should, and it did

successfulyy reboot. The only issue is, I cannot remote access into

it. Is the hotfix meant o fix this problem?

Mmm, good question, maybe not. I've applied the hotfix myself on

all of my servers, but they were hung during the shutdown process

and never really rebooted.

Have you logged on to the physical console of the server and

checked if Remote Desktop connectons (in Control Panel - System -

Remote) are still enabled?

Have you looked at the event logs? Also, check to see if any services

set for "Automatic" are not running... Try and start any and see what

happens.

This is one huge reason that I avoid rebooting servers remotely at all

costs....
