Woodbug Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Hi All, Can anyone help me? I have a Hitachi GCR 8483B CD and whilst it will read drawings and photos from discs it does not recognise any discs when I insert them to save information. The message is always "Insert disck into D drive". When I do this nothing happens. I would welcome any advice on this. Kind regards to all, especially those who have helped me in the past. RandyL Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Hi Woodbug. I believe that's a Hitachi GCR 8483B CD-ROM. That's a read only optical drive. You can't burn disks with it. Since there is nothing on a blank disk it doesn't recognize it. Sorry Woodbug. What you need is a CD-RW drive. I'm going to move your post to your own thread in this section. Post has been moved. Woodbug Posted June 13, 2010 Author Posted June 13, 2010 Hi RandyL I have taken the unit out of the computer and it says CD-ROM DRIVE Model GCR-8483B. I thought you could copy onto blanks with a CD-ROM. If I am wrong (and I probably am) please can you tell me what I need to obtain? Thanks for your time. Woodbug Quote
RandyL Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 At the very least you need a CD-R/RW drive. You could also go with a combo CD-DVD read and write drive but a CD-ROM drive is read only. Plastic Nev Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Hi have a look here- Philips DVD+RW Drive DVDRW416K: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo As you can see a full CD/DVD RW drive is not too expensive and will give you the ability to record to either CD or DVD blanks plus of course play both CD and DVD disks. all for less than £20, and may be cheaper in Europe or Spain, so can't be bad, I would buy one at that price if I didn't already have one:D Nev. Woodbug Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 Thank you both for your very sound advice (no pun intended honest!) I will now start on the difficult bit armed with the information you have supplied. Even a simple thing like buying a cable here is a major task - nothing is easy. Regards to all Woodbug Quote
