Hi.

Here I'm again, and thank you in anticipation.

I have an old-is Tiny laptop, with windows Xp installed, which needed a replacement battery, which worked fine for a while, but one day I foolishly put the unit down on the floor (carpet) while it was still running, and left it there for some time. When eventually I come back to it, it had switched itself off.

Next time I tried to run it without the mains lead connected, it refused to come to life. Ever since the battery refuses to operate the laptop.

I guess there must be an overheating prevention device within? which must have tripped?

My question is: Can I somehow re-set this or do I need a new battery (again)?

Thank you

Laptops do have overheat protection in general but do normally reset once cooled down.

If the system had not reset then the laptop wouldn't work at all, however it does with the lead plugged in. That suggests either the heat has damaged the battery, or worse the printed circuit connections on the board.

Not knowing the type of battery or its voltage, I can only generalise, but a test of the battery with a meter, or if possible a car headlight bulb would prove whether the battery is OK or not.

If the battery proves OK then it will be a fault on the board. This is sometimes all part of the main motherboard or can be a separate charging board attached to the main board.

Hi Nev.

Thanks for your reply.

The battery type is : UN755, The voltage stated is: 14.8v and 4400 mAh capacity. The laptop works with the main lead attached, as long as the battery is in place.

I'm a bit careful checking the output, as there are a possible 8 very tiny slots to insert the pins and am afraid to damage it further.

Thank you again

Yours
