I have since reported the problem to foxconn and they kindly sent me the exact audio driver files but after installation i get the same message report.Could the problem be in Bios?

Hi Stuart,

Can you confirm that you OS is XP please?

Start > Run ...type in.... devmgmt.msc ............ENTER

Click the + next to Sound,Video, games Controllers

Let us know what is listed.

Are there any red Xs or yellow exclamation marks ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

no sound

i now thankfully have the soundmax driver installed but unfortunately no sound i borrowed a friends usb speakers to try on my system and they work so i think my mobo must be damaged somewhere.

Your list from Device Manager shows "Legacy Audio"

Yet you say that you have a Soundmax card installed ??

Do you have a PCI sound card ( actual sound card - not on-board ) and if so can you confirm the make and model number from the card itself please.

Also onboard sound can be disabled from within the BIOS, if whoever had the board before you had an add in sound card (PCI for example) then they wold have disabled the BIOS sound to avoid conflicts

sound is onboard only and i have now installed soundmax drivers after many attempts but still have no sound from the back of my mobo the only way i get sound is if i borrow my friends usb speakers. have looked in bios cant find anything for sound.

While it has not been touched upon yet, have you ever tested your existing speakers? How are they connected? You are not relying on the internal speaker are you?

no i have integrated speakers on my monitor but they dont seem to emit sound but if i connect the monitor to my daughters laptop they work fine.

On the back of your MOBO there should be 3/5/7 jacks normally

3 is most common on older boards and is for 2:1 then 5 is 5:1 and then 7:1

GREEN - front audio BLUE/BLACK back audio and RED/ORANGE Sub

you need to use the Green one on a standard 2:1 setup.

I still think that the BIOS would be a very high possibility, go into the BIOS and you are looking for something saying realtek audio : Enabled/Disabled.

Its normally under integrated periferals ;)

If this is the case then the problem could be with the jack socket.

If you waggle the plug when it is connected do you get anything from the speakers?

If you do then it is possibly a dry joint that can be re-soldered.

You could be right about a board fault, being second hand who knows what may have happened in the past. If as you say the sound is enabled in the BIOS and also works via USB speakers, it does seem that everything has been tried, so it is either a crack in the printed circuit, a broken jack socket, or worse the output chip or transistor has been blown, possibly by someone connecting a shorted lead or even sending a very powerful signal into it.

If you don't want to be spending money on a new board, then I can only suggest investing in a set of USB speakers, at least you know they should work.
