I recently changed Antivirus vendor and system state backup got broke

during the process :(

The source of the problem seems to be that Volume Shadow Copy Service DLLs

have become unregistered, but I don't know which DLLs are involved to try

manual re-registering.

Here's the first associated event from the Application log:

Event ID: 20

Source: VSS

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: A critical component required by the

Volume Shadow Copy service is not registered. This might happened if an

error occurred during Windows setup or during installation of a Shadow Copy

provider. The error returned from CoCreateInstance on class with CLSID

{40700425-0080-11d2-851f-00c04fc21759} and Name

MSSQL_ClientVirtualDeviceSet is [0x80040154].

All help gratefully received!

TIA,

Geoff

Do you have the VSS roll-up installed?

Thanks for your help,

I didn't unless MS has installed it as part of auto-update. So I installed

it and tried to do a system state backup to get the same errors as before.

Best regards,

Geoff
