Evening all,

Just came into pocession of a dell M1330 netbook which unfortunetly won't power on. I have a few ideas what might be the problem but I don't want to spend money replacing something which isn't the solution.

When I plug the power cable in the mains - the blue light on the adapter glows (as expected). However, when I then proceed to plug this into the laptop the light immediately goes out, as if the power is dead. The only way to get the light on the adapter to glow again is if I switch the power on the socket off and on again. This is why i have a feeling the power cable needs replacing.. :suspicious:

What do you guys think? I can't test anything else for faults as the laptop won't switch on probably due to a flat battery. As i said I didn't want to buy something and then discover that wasn't the solution :)

thanks!

Right this could be a number of things from:-

* faulty power lead

* faulty socket on the MOBO (very common in lappys, not too hard to do if you are handy with a soldering iron)

* dead battery (battery is needed to complete the circuit, some lappys work without this so remove the battery and then try with just the power lead)

* Fried MOBO

Hope the above helps, it can sometimes be a simple fix other times you will spend more on parts trying to diagnose than the lappy is worth :D
