Guest PSRumbagh Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 The program "Microsoft Chat" launches upon bootup. I can't find the shortcut or command that causes it. It is not under the MSCONFIG startup tab. Where should I be looking for it and how do I stop the program from launching upon startup? Also, in Win XP you can put a shortcut in "C:\documents&settings\usersname\start menu\programs\startup" to have a program launch upon bootup. What is the equivalent action in Win98SE?

Guest PSRumbagh Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Re: Can't find program startup command I unclicked "Microsoft Chat" under communications as per your reccomendation. Now I get an error message that a shortcut can't find CCHAT.EXE. Where is this shortcut so I can delete it? This shortcut was probably the item that I wanted in the first place. Where is >this shortcut so I can delete it? This shortcut was probably the item that I >wanted in the first place. I looked inside a file named Cchat25.inf in the Windows\Inf directory and found the following lines: CChat_LINK = "Microsoft Chat" CChatDir = "Microsoft Chat" CChatExe = "CChat.exe" Program_Files = "Program Files" CChat_conv = "Microsoft Chat Conversation" CChat_short = "Microsoft Chat Room Shortcut" I'd go to Start > Find > Files or Folders and search for files/folders Named "chat". I suspect you will find a shortcut named "Microsoft Chat Room Shortcut.lnk" or "Microsoft Chat.lnk". - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email.

Start msconfig, click the "Startup" tab, scroll to the right and look for "cchat.exe". If you find it, uncheck it and click "OK". > Also, in Win XP you can put a shortcut in > "C:\documents&settings\usersname\start menu\programs\startup" to have a > program launch upon bootup. What is the equivalent action in Win98SE? With one user profile, try "C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup". If there is more than one user profile, look for "C:\Windows\Profiles\profilename\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" Ben
