Hi. Maybe a silly question, Deb,have you taken the disc out of the drive?

That will cause your symtoms.

Can you Boot up in Safe Mode. Tapping F8 ?

Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.

If able to get into Safe Mode,I would check Device Manager for corrupt or missing Drivers first.

Hi, if that doesn't work providing you do or can get into safe mode with F8, try the "previously known good" and see if that works.

If no to any, can you let us know what type of disk you have that you reinstalled Windows with and what it says on the label if any?

That may help us with going further.

Nev.

I know it is an old post, done and dusted, the latest advice posted is missing a few steps, which are important.

You need to backup all of the five registry files, and copy all of the purpose made standard reg files over. The reason is that they work together and are merged on startup. using just two of the five could cause all sorts of issues.

Then it is best to restart in Safe Mode, and run a System Restore, just don't attempt to fire it up in normal mode with the MS default reg files.

Here's Microsoft's official version for anyone that needs to run the repair.
