tony1975 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Hi. I transfered a photo from my digital camera and used it as a wallpaper. I have erased all pictures that were on the camera and i now want to save the picture i transfered being used as the wallpaper but cannot find it in my files. I've looked around in the control panel but the wallpaper picture list brings up a different picture. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Quote
Goku Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Hello and Welcome to FPCH Tony. The active wallpaper is not stored as a file anywhere on the computer. So, if you deleted the picture from the original source, it is very unlikely that you are going to get it back. However, there is a way that you can "extract" the wallpaper and save it as a file. For that, simply press Ctrl + Shift + Esc combination and shift to the Processes tab. In there, end the process named "explorer.exe". Now you should be left with a completely blank screen with nothing but the wallpaper. Close the "Task Manager" window and quickly press the Prtsc key on your keyboard. Next, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc again and from the File Menu, select New Task (Run...). Type "explorer.exe" in the Open: field and click on OK. This should bring back the Desktop and the icons. Now open Paint and press the Ctrl + V combination. If done correctly, this should bring up your wallpaper on the Paint window. Save the image by pressing the Ctrl + S combination and then browse to your newly created wallpaper file. :) Let me know if it works or not or if you find the instructions confusing; I will try to make them better. Good Luck. :) -- Goku Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I agree with Goku. Once you have the picture as your wallpaper it is no longer necessary that the original photo remains in your computer. If all that seems a bit much just move all your desktop icons away from the picture. If the picture is stretched to fill the whole screen it is probably a bit distorted from the original so set your desktop to "center" which will eliminate the distortion. Once that is done you can simply follow the prnt/scr (my keyboard actually spells out print screen ) once it is in paint you can crop to remove the rest of the desktop and save the result as either a .jpg or .png file. There is a great program called snaggit that works a bit better but is no longer free. I think you will be satisfied with the photo you save using paint.
