Microsft Identification

My son purchased a PC system from an on-line e-Bay reseller which was stated

to have genuine XP Pro and Office 2007 SE installed. To cut a long story

short, the Microsft OGA Manager has confirmed, via supplied MGADiag Report,

that the installed software was indeed non genuine.

Communication with the supplier has stopped. He refuses to answer emails,

so request for refund is being ignored. The advertised telephone number

won't except incoming calls and the e-Bay supplied number for their customer

support line is an answerphone line that has been overscribed and won't

except any more messages.

He is however quick to respond to feedback left on the site and totally

refutes that the software is not genuine "......All stock obtained from

Authorised MS Distributor"

The site indicates that their Microsoft ID is: 1880195 – Aysha Mir.

Can anyone confirm the Microsoft ID system and what it is/does??? Is the

above ID real or a scam ??? If it's real why all the hassle ???

What Microsoft ID system? But, generally, if WGA reports that the

item is not genuine, then the first recourse would be to follow the

suggestions from the Microsoft website. However, let me ask this:

Does your son have all of the original Windows XP and Office cdroms

along with their certificates, manuals, documentation, etc.? They

should have accompanied any sale. If not, then I would be inclined

to believe Microsoft's OGA declaration.

Re: Microsft Identification

Many thanks for your quick response.

In answer to your questions.....

1) There was no COA attached to PC. Non has ever been supplied despite request

2) CD's not initially delivered but subseqently sent on request. They do

not conform to any design shown on Microsoft site for genuine CD's

3) No manuals or other Documentation supplied

Having sent the MGADiag report for assessment, the response received

confirmed without any doubt in my mind that the software was non-genuine. It

now seems that my suspicions of a scam with the Microsoft ID system is

confirmed with your reply.

If anyone else has any further input as confirmation I'd be happy to hear.

You've heard all that you need to hear.

I doubt that you have any recourse against the seller. You might look

into that.

If that proves futile, you will have to spend more money to get your

system up and running.

Totally agree with you but even after all the research before buying, still

Next time you buy a computer on eBay (I've bought several), by "factor

sealed and unopened).

Or buy it knowing that you will have to add at least $100 to load the

OS.

I would have guessed that factory sealed and unopened ones would be pretty

hard to find on eBay. Guess they come from some dealers, and not

individuals (like Joe down the street trying to sell his used system).

Definitely an illicit copy. File a complaint with eBay, not that

they'll really do anything. Contact your credit card company to stop

the payment and report the fraud. Contact your local law enforcement

and/or consumer protection agencies to determine what other courses of

action may be available to you.

How the hell did this idiot come to this conclusion? Microsoft's WGA is not a

genuine tool to decide this. I have several systems running "pirated software" and

yet WGA says quite clearly that I have GENUINE SOFTWARE and I keep receiving updates

and what not regularly!

Bruce,

Thanks. Further action already in motion. Your right, e-Bay aren't really

interested despite some forthright emails to them. As long as they keep

getting their share income that's all they care about.

Fat Kev,

Your right and that's how this supplier is getting away with it. He slipped

up by not installing Office pre delivery. Having received CD and installed

my son required a CV template which required WGA to be run before download.

It failed. The new HDD they supplied with office pre-installed didn't fail

same test. However, Microsofts MGADiag Tool confirmed non-genuine.

I have had exactly the same problem- with the same E-Bay seller. The

software failed vaildation, I was told the licence number belonged to

a large corporate customer- There were no COAs, the CDs which I

eventually got after a lot of argy bargy were not genuine software but

some sort I've never seen before- Both of the CDs failed validation as

well. I was told I could return the PC for a refund- guess what they

claim never to have received back.

I'm willing to name this E-Bay seller - QWELT_group, QWELT ltd,

Raymond & Richie Johnson, John Kennedy and so on.

I paid through PayPal so lodged a claim with them- they were as

helpful as a chocolate teapot and said I had no claim.

So now I'm over £300 out of pocket and not even got the PC to show for

it.

That's why you send things via a traceable shipper. Anything more than

$50 US, I pay $2 for a return receipt or send UPS or Fedex. Something.

terry,

Sorry you have suffered same problem. I can confirm your naming and shaming

of the company and people involved - QWELT Group.

I refused to send the PC (hardware) back for fear of the very thing that

you've encountered i.e wasn't received. The hardware wasn't the issue just

the software. The purchase was done through credit card so a claim has been

lodged with card company for a refund. The refund is for retail purchase of

valid software from local retail outlet. Outlet provided cost details to do

so.

Card company have all details of QWELT and are pursuing issue with them.

Hope legal action is taken

Son not yet had refund from company but ever hopeful will be resolved

Perhaps Microsoft should check this company out but doubt they'd be

interested as probably not big enough. It annoys me that such company's get

away with these things and it's the innocent parties that pay. Why PayPal

say you haven't a claim is beyond me. Shows typical lack of interest just

like Ebay. They were unhelpful as well . All are just happy to take

Re: Microsft Identification

I too have had problems with Qwelt Ltd. To the tune of £377 for 2 pc's

They got suspended from ebay half way thru the transaction. Ebay wiped

out the details of the auctions I won.

Since then, (April) they got up & running again, but I've had no joy

getting my PC's or my money back from them.

I notice they are no longer registered users of Ebay - hopefully as a

result of the 120+ reports I filed for non-compliance with Ebay

policies. (I'll make 'em pay)

All their auctions said they were based in London. Their website says

Manchester.

They always tried to get buyers to pay through their 'secure' payment

page on their website - saying it was provided by HSBC.

It's not secure & has no connection to HSBC. Just a simple web mailing

form which stores peoples card details in an sql database on the web.

If anyone's paid thru this form I'd highly recommend putting a stop on

the card.

I've done some tracing on them & in the past they sold fake designer

clothing & jewelery, mobile phones thru 365mobile.com & their HQ looks

like a high street 'pound' shop & is called Bargain World.

If anyone needs more detailed contact information, details follow:
